Mission : To promote Gastroenterology as a dynamic/scientific Subspecialty especially to the younger physicians.

To improve relations/needs between academic and private Gastroenterologist.

To encourage industry/R+D participations.

To avail the SAADD as a centre for training in Gastroenterology within Sub Saharan Africa

Head : Gastrointestinal clinic at the University of Stellenbosch and Tygerberg Hospitals

Prof Sandie Thomson Past President

Practice : Professor of Surgery in full-time academic practice. 
Head : Surgical Gastroenterology Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine
Professional Interests : Trauma, hepatobiliary & pancreatic disease. Teaching & development of flexible and rigid endoscopy.
SAGES : Served on Council for many years. He took over from Japie Louw as secretary.
