Presidents Invitation
The
South African Gastroenterology Society (SAGES) 2008
Conference will be a combined meeting with the South African
Society of Endoscopic Surgeons (SASES) as well as SAGINS and
will be held from Friday 8 – Monday 11 August 2008.
Delegates are offered all the right ingredients for a
successful meeting. At the South-western tip of Africa where
the two oceans meet and Table Mountain rises majestically
from the sea lies Cape Town – The Mother City. This
affectionate name is a reflection of its status as the
oldest city in South Africa. The Cape Town International
Conference Centre is the venue for the conference which is
within easy reach of the fascinating Victoria and Alfred
Waterfront with its wide range of entertainment,
restaurants, coffee bars, pubs and shops.
Cape Town usually enjoys beautiful weather in August with
mild temperatures. The city and the Western Cape has a lot
to offer visitors at that time of the year– the Waterfront,
Robben Island, beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens,
Franschoek and the whales along the coast at Hermanus are
only a few of the attractions to this part of the world.
An excellent international faculty is participating
including Dr John Nicholls (UK), Dr Jenny Heathcote
(Canada), Dr Simon Travis (UK) and Prof Loren Laine (USA).
We are delighted that our Mayo colleagues are willing to
visit again and we welcome Anton Decker and David Fleischer.
The SASES speaker is the world-renowned Prof Guy-Bernard
Cadière from Belguim.
The programme will start on Friday 8 August 2008 mid morning
with the academic "free papers"
A one day GP Gastroenterology Update symposium will be held
concurrently with the congress on Saturday 9 August 2008.
The international visitors as well as local
gastroenterologist will provide a varied programme on all
aspects of gastroenterology which would appeal to general
practitioners. This GP Update will be the SAGES outreach
programme for 2008.
A workshop to compliment the theme of the conference will be
held on Monday 11 August 2008 at Groote Schuur Hospital.
This workshop will cover all aspects of gastroenterological
procedures with 4 procedure rooms running parallel with live
cases from theatre, laparoscopic and open surgery.
Besides talks on numerous topics by invited speakers (local
and international), there will be opportunity for
presentation of original research work, either as oral or
poster presentations. Delegates are encouraged to use this
meeting as a forum to discuss their research findings, both
in clinical and basic science.
So to enjoy a superb scientific programme in the most
delightful of environments, simply make use of the online
registration facility that will be available from 30
November 2007. You will also be able to submit abstracts
online from 30 November 2007.
We’ve got the TABLE, the CLOTH and the CENTRE. You’re
invited to be the DELEGATE in August 2008.
Warm regards
