The South African IBD Registry |
 |
Epidemiology has played an important role in our understanding of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
The adverse effect of smoking on Crohn's disease, the IBD North-South gradient and the emergence of IBD in
developing countries are examples of such studies. Furthermore good epidemiological data has become the
cornerstone of healthcare planning and is now considered essential when negotiating benefits with healthcare
funders. The epidemiology of IBD in South Africa is largely unknown.
You can now participate in this exciting project to "map" the extent of IBD in South Africa.
The AIMS of the SA IBD Registry are to benefit:
- You, the Doctor - by offering a better understanding of IBD in your country and the opportunity to
participate in a national research initiative.
- Your Patient - through better access to therapy
.
- Your Practice - by streamlining patient care
.
- The Registry will be web based and easy to use.
